Australia’s First Media Facade – Signal

Circus recently announced the launch of ‘Signal’ as Melbourne’s first arts studio dedicated to people aged 13 to 20 interested in a wide range of art forms. Signal is located right in the heart of the city: behind Flinders Street Station on Northbank, in the Les Erdi Plaza, at the northern end of Sandridge Bridge, a prime Melbourne location overlooking the Yarra river and the iconic hub of ‘Southbank’, one of Melbourne’s most well known restaurant and shopping precincts.

Circus solutions who ran the hugely successful urban screen at Federation Square for 6 years from launch and currently consult globally on urban screen installations were invited by Melbourne City Council to develop a screen concept for the new building that would not interrupt the fabulous views they enjoyed of the Yarra river and Southbank.

Circus was able to achieve this by using a combination of rear projection and ‘switching glass’. During the day the windows provide uninterrupted panoramic views and after dark the building comes alive as an urban screen and digital canvas for exciting new commissioned artists works.
